Geranium essential oil is obtained by steam distillation process of the leaves of Pelargonium Graveolens, a plant species native to South Africa but cultivated worldwide for the production of essential oils and absolutes.
Its cultivars grow mainly in Reunion Island, China, Egypt, Algeria, and Morocco. While China and Egypt are the major producers of pelargonium essential oils, the bourbon geranium from Reunion Island is considered one of the highest quality essential oils. In India geranium is cultivated from the plains to high altitudes.
Geranium oil smells similar to rose, obtained by the distillation of the leaves and stalks. The liquid gives off a sharp, herbaceous green scent with a sweet minty-rose undertone
Geranium essential oil blends well with Basil, Bergamot, Citronella, Clary Sage, Fennel, Grapefruit, Jasmine, Juniper, Lavender, Lemon, Lemongrass, Neroli, and Nutmeg.
